This course includes the nationally accredited unit SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol. This course equips individuals to serve alcohol responsibly. Certification requirements apply at a state and territory level to individuals involved in the sale, service and promotion of alcohol in licenced premises. Certification in some States relies on the achievement of SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol.
This course covers Victorian specific requirements and is approved by Liquor Control Victoria (LCV) for the Victorian Liquor Commission, which allows those who complete the course to work in licensed venues in Victoria.

This is an online course delivered via an online learning platform and as such has technology requirements and support limitations noted in the course information that you need to review and consider. You are responsible for and must have access to these requirements to do this course. We strongly recommend if you do not have access to the technology requirements, are unsure of or inexperienced with using a web-based platform such as those used in online learning environments you should not enrol in this course. This course has a specified duration as noted in the course information and fees are payable at enrolment.
Who should do this course?
Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold or served, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This course, therefore, applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold or served, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.
The course applies to all personnel involved in the sale, service and promotion of alcohol in licensed premises. Those selling or serving alcohol may include food and beverage attendants, bar attendants, waiters; liquor salespersons selling in person, over the phone or online; winery, brewery and distillery cellar door staff; and supplier sales representatives. The course also applies to security staff who monitor customer behaviour and to the licensee who is ultimately responsible for responsible service of alcohol (RSA) management.
What does the course cover?
The course covers the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell or serve alcohol. This course covers the RSA skills and knowledge requirements common to all States and Territories. As legislative requirements differ across borders, in some cases after completion of the unit, state and territory liquor authorities require candidates to complete a bridging course to address these specific differences. How long does the course take?
This is a self-paced online course comprising content and related activities and assessment. However, it must be completed within 4 weeks from enrolment. The time needed to complete this course is between 8-12 hours depending on your past experience and learning ability.
Please note: your 4-week enrolment period begins upon enrolment.
Assessment
This course requires completion of 3 assessment tasks.
Technical requirements
To complete this course, you will require access to a computer that has a recent operating system (e.g. Windows 10 or Big Sur), device or mobile phone, access to the internet, web browser (Google Chrome recommended), and a device with speaker/microphone (such as smartphone). This course also requires you to have good to excellent digital capability with experience using web browsers, navigating within web-based platforms and uploading video files as this course is solely delivered in an online format. You will enrol online and access a web-based learning platform and student portal to undertake the course.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit with the wording This unit of competency from the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package provides the skills and knowledge for individuals to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.
This course covers Victorian specific requirements and is approved by Liquor Control Victoria (LCV), which allows those who complete the course to work in licensed venues in Victoria. An LCV Certificate will be issued within five business days upon successful completion of the course and must be provided to your employer to work in Victorian licensed venues. Please be aware that:

Should you wish to cancel your enrolment prior to commencing course work a cancellation fee of $50 will apply.
Should you wish to cancel your enrolment after commencing any course work there is no refund payable.

- Knowledge Test - self-marking multiple-choice test, 100% pass rate, 3 attempts permitted. If you fail three times, you must repeat the course.
- Short Answer Question – questions requiring written answers
- Demonstration – recording yourself demonstrating set tasks and uploading the recordings
