Follow these 5 simple steps to plan staff training and you’ll have an actionable staff training strategy that you can use to start improving your business today.
Are you interested in training your staff but not sure where to start? The beginning of the year is a great time to plan for the year ahead and the best way to go about staff training is to have a plan. And here we’ve given you the exact formula that we use to plan staff training for each and every one of our clients.
In order to develop a training strategy for your business you need to determine what training your business needs. And for that, you need to know what your business goals are, and who your current workforce is.
5 Simple Steps
1 – List your main business goals and strategies.
You might pull these from your annual business plan or strategic plan. As you’re doing this, think about how you’ll action these strategies. For instance, if you want to increase the average sale amount you will need to increase the price of your goods and/or sell more goods.
2 – List all your current staff members.
Detail their role, employment status, and any qualifications they have.
3 – Identify skill gaps between current staff and business needs.
Find where any gaps exist between your current resources and what you need to get where you want to be. Review your business goals and add in skills that are needed. Also whether they currently exist in your workplace.
4 – Determine which gaps can be filled by your existing staff.
Now look at how to get these skills and knowledge into your workforce. It is beneficial to utilise your existing staff where possible so focus on that first. Can existing staff fill these gaps at current skill levels? What about with some improvement or development?
5 – Identify training options.
Look at training options for developing these skills in your business. Consider in-house training and mentoring, short courses, full qualification training, and workshops.
This last step is where the experience and expertise of a training organisation like AVTES really becomes useful. We know the options that exist and can help you identify what the best options are for you, taking into account your budget, business structure, staff availability, learning style, etc. We also help you get the most cost effective and beneficial solutions because we know all the commonwealth and state government funding opportunities that are available to you.
